WCAS Newsletter - Summer 2020
What’s New?
What’s New?
Summer Art Showcase launched July 1 and runs until August 31. Coordinator Pamela Stewart reports 34 members are represented there, with some pieces sold (Katharine Fletcher, Karen Bell). Says Pam, “There is a flipbook/feature on the website, a full album of featured art on Facebook, and a Highlights section on the Instagram account. Throughout the summer, WCAS will post about the showcase and drive traffic to look at these features.”
How can we members help our fellow artists and WCAS? By sharing our WCAS FB posts to our own networks. Pam explains: “Use our official hashtag #WCASSummer. However, even more important if posting about the show is tagging the WCAS social media pages so that we can then share.” Tip for Instagram? She continues, “On IG, members can share any WCAS post as a story on their IG feed with just one click on the little ‘paper plane’ arrow on their app.” And have you seen the Flipbook on our website? Our webmaster, Lori Law has created a marvelous “book” to flip through. Check it out – and share! Showcase’s participating artists’ bios and links are advertised here, too. |
Upcoming
This year’s annual Expressions of Art (October 9-31) is an online-only exhibition because our annual physical show was cancelled due to Covid. This represents our first juried show for EOA, where all artwork from the participating 26 members is for sale. EOA will be available for preview in mid-September, so watch your e-mail and our social media for upcoming information.
Ongoing Events and Opportunities
Our annual exhibition at Almonte’s The Herb Garden continues this summer. WCAS Coordinator, Anne Heather Moore notes, “Kathryn Spooner Bossy, Bonnie McQuillan, Marlene Othmer, Karen Bell, and Katharine Fletcher have sold pieces. However, our exhibition will close early this year, at the end of August.” Anne will be in touch with participating members regarding when to collect their artworks.
Plant Bath is closed until further notice due to C19. Watch our sites for info about re-opening/calls to artists.
Juke Joint Soul Kitchen is open for business. Our coordinator Freeman Keats says the three current artists who are exhibiting there (Freeman, Janis Miller Hall and Sara VanDenElson) will continue until the end of August. In August, watch for Freeman’s e-mail call for new artists to show for September.
Constance Bay Public Library is still not open yet, and no opening date has been determined due to Covid. Coordinator Janice Johnston says, “Currently, the works of WCAS artist Danielle Barabé-Bussières are on exhibit. Meanwhile, interested members can apply online following the links on the WCAS website to the Constance Bay Library application. Each artist applying will be entered in the queue to show in the order of her/his application.
The Carp Library has just indicated that artwork can be removed from the venue as there is no browsing allowed. Venue co-ordinator Nonie Smart will be in touch with those who have artwork placed at the library to determine the next steps. This venue is likely to remain closed for artwork for the time being.
$100 & Under: After careful consideration, the Board of Directors has voted to cancel our $100 and Under Show and Sale for 2020. Many considerations were reviewed, including the safety of our artists, guests and community, the current air of uncertainty and restriction, new physical requirements for the show, and potential financial outcomes. Artists will be refunded their application fees. Currently there are no plans to run this as an online show, but should that decision change, we’ll be informed. If you would like to organize something to take its place please or have any great ideas, please contact Ginny Fobert at [email protected] to discuss.
