CALL TO ARTISTS
August 1 – October 30 th , 2023
Theme: “Elementary”
WCAS is preparing for our next show at The Bay Café venue, located in the Village of Constance Bay. August brings the final weeks of summer holiday sweetness, September is the delight of new starts, and October the welcome of bright leaves and cool evenings. Keeping our focus on the simple and uncomplicated beauty of the changes each month brings, our theme for the coming exhibition is “Elementary”.
The Bay Café offers its patrons expresso-based coffees, teas and sodas, a light menu, is licensed and provides live music weekly that jam packs this little space. The owner is passionate about supporting local businesses and is loving the addition of our artwork to her business’s walls.

Deadline: The deadline for applications for this exhibit is July 23, 2023. No late entries will be considered. You will be notified by email by July 27, 2023, of your acceptance status.
Application Specifics:
Applications must include:
You may submit up to 3 pieces. The venue can hold 1 larger piece at a maximum of 48” x 36”. Best sizes are standard canvas sizes ranging from 8” x 10” to 30”x 30”. Long horizontal pieces can work too, they just can not be wider that 34” in height.
The facility is small and can accommodate an estimated 8 - 12 pieces of artwork depending on the range is sizes chosen for the venue’s particular show.
Submitted artwork must look professional and be exhibit ready. Frames must be in good condition – no nicks or scratches please.
➜IMPORTANT: All submission must conform to the WCAS hardware standards - please read the WCAS guidelines. Failure to follow these guidelines will result in your painting being omitted from the show. Canvases less than 1” width must be framed.
Commission on sales:
A 15% commission will be deducted from the sale of art (10% commission is payable to The Bay Café / 5% commission is payable to WCAS). WCAS will forward payment, minus commissions, to the artist.
Purchased Art:
When artwork is purchased, the proprietor of The Bay Café will conduct the sale transaction, collect the pertinent sale information, and wrap the artwork for the buyer. The buyer will be able to leave with the venue with their purchased artwork once payment in full is acquired. The Bay Café will then contact the venue coordinator and
inform of the sale.
The venue coordinator will contact the artist and WCAS Committee Members of the transactions. The selling artist may provide the venue with another piece of art for the duration of the exhibit.
The Bay Café will send the payment for the sold artwork, minus their 10% commission, to WCAS Treasurer. The WCAS Treasurer will forward on the payment, minus WCAS’ 5% commission, to the selling artist. Artists are paid out at the end of each month of sales.
Exhibition Artwork drop-off & pick-up:
Location: The Bay Café, 131 Constance Bay Road, Woodlawn, Ontario, K0A 3M0.
Drop-off: The chosen artwork will need to be dropped off to the venue on Tuesday August 1st, 12 noon – 1 pm. The venue coordinators will be there to greet you. You will sign in your artwork and unwrap it before you leave the venue.
Pick-up: Monday October 30th, 2023, 12 noon – 1 pm. Please arrive on time and with the transportation materials you’ll need to keep your art safe for the ride home.
WCAS Membership: Membership in the West Carleton Arts Society is mandatory for submission to all WCAS Venue Shows. Here is the link to apply for your membership.
Insurance/Security:
WCAS does not carry insurance for the artwork being exhibited, therefore the artist must be aware of the risk or carry their own insurance for loss/damage of their artwork.
Submission decisions:
The venue & selection committee will review all applications received and select the artworks for this venue and exhibit. The choice of the committee is final.

- An image of each original artwork being submitted for consideration. Images should be taken full-on, no frames or miscellaneous background, and should not contain watermarks/names other than a signature.
- Each image should be re-named as before attaching to our submission. Please include these components; artist name, title, size, medium, framed (f) or unframed (uf), $ value.
- Your submission should also include a short Artist’s Bio and Artist’s Statement that will accompany the successful applicant’s art works.
