Volunteers Needed!
Bringing our programs back to life!
As you know, over the last two years, several of WCAS’ activities have been put on hold. For 2023, we are looking to bring them back and to do so, we are looking for some members who are interested in helping make that happen!
For most of the activities, we already have one or two members who are willing to assist. We need some others who are willing to lead or co-lead to get these activities off the ground again. Maybe find a friend and see what you can lead together!
These programs have been an integral part of WCAS over the years. They provide unique opportunities for artists to connect and learn. Some direction is available, but fresh ideas are also welcome!
If you are interested in any of these roles, please contact the president, Sue Shuker at [email protected].
Spring Into Art Conference and Workshop
This popular one-day workshop is generally held in early April and comprises five speakers (one of whom might do a subsequent workshop), lunch and time to network and connect. There is a list of volunteers interested in helping out. The main functions required to put on the event include:
- Book the venue, caterers and five speakers
- Determine if there will be a connected workshop, manage logistics
- Work with the treasurer to manage the budget and set ticket prices
- Work with the PR team to promote the event.
Summer Art Workshop
This in-person art workshop is generally held in the summer for five days. The managing team will look at what instructors might be available and of interest to the group. They can be any skill set or medium, although it is best to have something with a broad appeal. In the past we have had Canadian and US instructors, with Canadian instructors resulting less expensive fees. The main functions to put on the event include:
- Short list of instructors/costs for board approval
- Booking venue and logistics for the instructor (accommodation)
- Working with the treasurer to manage the budget and set event fees.
ARTiculate
ARTiculate is usually part of WCAS’ ongoing programs, with sessions being held about 8-9 times per year. Over the past year, a few sessions have been held successfully via Zoom. For 2023, our in-person meetings will include a short business section with WCAS news, a break to connect and catch up with other members, and then a guest speaker. One or two experienced volunteers are available to help, but overall coordination is required. The main functions required to organize these events include:
- Book venue, organize refreshments
- Ensure exec/board member to do business section
- Book and introduce speaker(s)
Publicity/Promotion
Social Media Coordinator: If you enjoy spending time on social media, brainstorming post ideas and writing blurbs for them, then WCAS and its amazing artists can benefit from your expertise by gaining exposure on Facebook and Instagram.
Publicity Coordinator: Like creating buzz? Join us to market our events by helping create some promotional items, such as news releases, advertising, and connecting with other organizations to promote our events.
Graphic Designer: Looking good is half the battle! If you like creating graphics, we can use your skills to design ads and other promotional material for use by WCAS and artists who are participating in our activities.
Art Shows
Spring Fling: Do you have good organizational skills and want to help run a fun, juried art show? Spring Fling will be held in March 2022 at the Kanata Civic Art Gallery. We are looking for some help to put this show together.
Grids
Grids Team Member: Connects with the client to arrange a mutual time to come to the locker for pick-up and drop-off. Signs out/in the appropriate number of grids. We are still in need of helpers with grid rentals a few times per year.
If you are interested in helping in any of these areas, don’t hesitate to contact Robert Reid at [email protected] .
If you have other skills or experiences you would like to offer, please do so!
