Artists' trading cards
Artists' Trading Cards (ATC)
Artist Trading Cards (ATCs) have proven to be a hit with WCAS members. We meet annually to exchange ATCs we have created throughout the year.
ATCs are miniature works of art the same size as modern trading cards, such as sports cards or playing cards. The standard ATC size is 2.5” x 3.5” and may be landscape or portrait orientation. They can be stored in standard trading card sleeves or displayed like any other art.
The ATC movement was started M. Vanci Stirnemann, a Swiss artist who created 1200 cards by hand as part of an exhibition and then invited others to create their own cards to trade with him during the closing reception. From there, the movement went around the world.
ATCs are traded or shared, not sold. Cards can be produced in any media, including dry, wet, collage or even metals or fibre. Although WCAS focuses on trading ATCs, cards that are sold are known as Art Card Editions and Originals (ACEO).
Each ATC should have on its back:
Theme / Title / Series (could be one of these or all 3), plus Artist's name, Date, and contact information (email or phone number).
All work must be original art and not copied or derived from any image that is not your own.
Future events will be announced.
