WCAS Newsletter - Spring 2020
What’s New?
How is your spring unfolding, creatively?
With C-19’s realities, it sometimes seems we’re extremely isolated, with “nothing happening” in our creative world. However, right here, within our WCAS members’ community, there are several events to look forward to!
- The Herb Garden’s Comfrey Cottage invites WCAS to exhibit from May – September again… but what’s different? Due to C-19, shop sales are managed exclusively online. Application deadline: May 1. A 15% commission on sales is payable to the Herb Garden. *Now closed to applications*
- Remember that the Expressions of Art 2020 Fall Juried Exhibit and Sale is still open for submissions until April 30th. Check your WCAS e-mails and our website for all details. This year, we are proceeding with an online jury on May 23. Apply here.
Recent Happenings
- Spring Fling was excellent, where seven of our members’ artworks sold. Indeed, 2020 represented our best year, where we made more money than ever before: $2,715! Congratulations to all who sold and a big thanks to all the organizers and artists who participated in this juried show.
- Now’s a great time to update your artist profile page on our WCAS website! Use this link to upload your bio and some photos of your art:
http://www.westcarletonartssociety.ca/social-media.html - Let’s continue to support Juke Joint Soul Kitchen in Carp --.open for take-out only from 12-7:00 daily. They are strong supporters of members’ art so let’s give them some business and enjoy their delicious meals.
- Ditto for another local family business, Zolas Restaurant, which also exhibits members’ art. They’re offering a delivery service when you place your order.
Social Media Challenge: A Breath of Fresh Air
Have you created any art? Taken any photos on walks? Post and tag an image of something you created that feels like Spring/A Breath of Fresh Air. Whether you post on Facebook or Instagram, be sure to tag WCAS with @westcarletonartssociety and use the hashtag #westcarletonartssociety. That way your photos will be seen on our feeds!

Volunteer With Us!
We have some volunteer opportunities that await new energies. Are you ready to offer some help?
- We are looking for members to join our publicity team to help promote our exhibitions and events more broadly. This can involve, social media, developing promotional material, media relations and managing our online calendar, among other activities. If you are interested, contact Kathryn Sauvé
- We also are seeking a team to re-imagine ARTiculate members’ meetings. What could regular meetings look like? Maybe gatherings that might include an open studio, a speaker, an activity – something a little bit different, where everyone could bring a little foodie contribution. These represent a super time to get to know one another, mix & mingle – and learn/share. Are you interested in being part of this brainstorming team? If so, contact Kathryn Sauvé .
