Pat Forrest
Fused Glass, Acrylic & Watercolour
Pat has lived in the outskirts of Renfrew Ontario since 1995. She is a constant creator who loves to paint and work with fused glass. After a 30+ year work career in Ottawa’s high tech sector Pat changed course to become a realtor and operated her own independent brokerage for 10 of the last 13 years while she was selling real estate.
Pat is a true entrepreneur but during the 2020 pandemic she made the decision to focus full time on being an artist. She began her painting journey in 1989 when she took lessons in the then-trendy tole painting, or decorative painting style. After many classes over the next few years she began teaching classes herself to small groups and enjoyed encouraging and coaching others to paint and ‘practice, practice, practice’! Having painted on glass, tin, wood, and fabric, she now paints solely either on canvas or paper. Watercolour is her most favoured medium, even though it can be very challenging. In the Fall of 2020 Pat began painting en plein air, focusing on some of the great local landscape scenes in this great Ottawa Valley.
Pat’s personal style emanates peace and tranquility throughout all of her artwork. Her paintings depict simple winter and autumn landscapes, colourful flowers, picket fences, red canoes, barns, and various wildlife which are all brought to life with contrasting and harmonious colours, yet all done in simple compositions.
In 2019 Pat discovered fused glass. After much thought, and once the decision to do art fulltime was made, it was the right decision to purchase her own glass kiln. Pat has created a lovely line of wild birds and treed landscapes. Her glass art can be found at her own ‘Gift Nook’ at her home art studio as well as galleries around the Ottawa Valley.
