Soft Pastels
I am a self taught, visual artist born and raised in Ottawa, currently residing in Barrhaven. As a child I always loved to draw, especially animals. I actively drew until my early 20's at which time I stopped altogether. After a hiatus of about 30 years I began to sketch again. I quickly began to dabble in different mediums - at first watercolors, then some acrylic, later, pen and ink and then pencil crayons. Soon after, I decided to try my hand at soft pastels after having seen beautiful artwork on Instagram by Pastel artist, Jason Morgan, from the UK. I bought my first set of Carbothello pastel pencils, some pastel sticks and Pastelmat paper and tested them out. It was love at first stroke! That was in 2019 just before the start of the pandemic and since then, I have done many pastel paintings, most of which have been birds and animals. My preferred style is realism and my art reflects my love of animals and nature. Although I have completed some commission work, my preference is to paint from an internal inspiration.
