Susan Clement-Beveridge
Acrylic / Mixed Media
As a Canadian visual artist, Susan loves to use a range of techniques to create and manipulate the texture and the depth to produce intriguing focal points in all of her work. It’s the joy and energy she gets from the challenge of discovering and creating new ideas that will eventually find their place on her next canvas.
Susan was born in Ottawa and has lived there most of her life. She went back to drawing and illustrating and has now been painting for more than a decade. Since 2010, she is partial to the scenes of Ottawa and the upper valley areas in the region, usually working from her photographs while painting with acrylic. She is always experimenting with various methods and effects in her acrylic & mixed media art, creating appealing textures while periodically using pen & ink for finer details. Most of her work borders realism in combination with an abstract form. By 2010, her creativity came in the form of painting portraits (people, animals-pets and musicians). Susan's artwork has now evolved into contemporary mixed media pieces, with hints of realism, while exploring the infinite world of abstract. Her style encompasses a bold, distinct and colourful palette range, showing depth and expression.
Susan is predominately a self-taught artist and has always had strong ties to the arts, be it visual art, theatre or music. The arts have always been a passionate part of her life, transpiring from many forms. Working as a co-op student she used pen-ink and silk screening at the National Postal Museum, to completing a two year Graphic Arts Technician course at Algonquin College, and then later finished courses through the City of Ottawa, Ottawa School of Art & Orange Gallery Art School, in drawing, painting and sculpture. She also studied watercolour used in illustrating for children's books with Mark G. Mitchell with Art School at the Museum of Art in Austin, Texas. Some of her commissioned work is found in private collections across Canada, the USA and New Zealand.
