Julea Boswell

I create joy-filled art that is full of colour and imagination. My work is sparked by a mix of memories, metaphor, and a sense of movement. Each creation is a process of discovery. A favourite springboard for creation is the amazing natural beauty that surrounds me. I am lucky to be able to split my time between two homes both with inspirational water views—one near the Ottawa River and in my home province of PEI—and the look and feel of my art is often awash with expressions of weather and water. For many years I worked with textiles, at first as a quilt designer-maker. In my current work, I sometimes draw on piecing and composition techniques rooted in scrap quilt-making, in which the shapes and placing of colour reveal themselves to me as I go along. I invite viewers to feel the joy and energy infused in my art and be relaxed by its fresh and contemporary style. I hope they experience it as an uplifting diversion from the ongoing stresses in our current world and day-to-day lives. "Wow! Such colour and freedom.
