Anti-spam Policy
Important Notice to Members of West Carleton Art Society re: Members' Bulletins
The new Canadian Anti-Spam legislation takes effect on July 1, 2014. For details about this legislation please refer to the link here: www.fightspam.gc.ca
What is new: Under section 6, it is required for commercial e-messages (Commercial electronic messages CEM) including Facebook to:
1) obtain consent of recipient to receive the message;
2) provide i.d. information of the sender and
3) provide an unsubscribe mechanism. Communications between members of an organization (such as West Carleton Arts Society), and to other organizations where the message concerns activities of the organization are exempt from section 6.
What is required of WCAS: With regard to the WCAS Members Only emails, these would be exempt. However, it would be prudent for WCAS to prove that we have the consent of the recipient, you, in writing, when, why and the manner (ie as part of member benefits).
Current WCAS practice: Our current practices with regard to Members Only email appear to meet the new legislation. Currently our Members list consists of members who have paid the annual membership dues (January to January). For the WCAS Members Only emails, which are clearly identified in the header, there is an opt out / unsubscribe button on each email. If you want to opt out of receiving these emails you can use the Unsubscribe button, or contact us.
WCAS changes: On the annual membership application form, we will add a blank box for you to check to indicate your consent to receive the Members Only Bulletins, and a place to date your application. Every year we will review our members list at the end of January. If you have not renewed your membership, we will remove your name from the list so that you do not receive these Members Only emails. No tag lines will be permitted on Members Only bulletins as this can convert these message into a CEM.
Please contact us if you have any questions about how the WCAS is handling the Anti-Spam Legislation
