artist profile
Marion Aitken
Acrylic
I describe my work as “high realism”. At a distance my artwork may look like a photo, but up closer, it is clearly a painting. Where possible I like to use my own photos as reference material (especially when my focus is the patterns, textures, and elements of nature). Given my background as a graduate of Sheridan College’s Scientific and Technical Illustration program, it’s natural that I gravitate towards detail and accuracy in my art. I love to use bright colours and powerful contrasts in my dramatic compositions. I hope that my work invites viewers to be immersed in a scene, inspired by intricacies that are often overlooked, and generally be refreshed as they consider the beauty that surrounds us.
